So many new bloggers get discouraged when weeks (or months) pass, and their blog still hasn’t generated the thousands of readers they’d hoped for.
It is a real shame, because if bloggers followed a few simple blog marketing steps, then they would probably find that there is a willing audience just dying to read about most topics.
What the easy and simple things that work like magic? Let’s explore some basic time-tested blog marketing tactics, and see if they are really too much for you.
Blog about a niche: The world doesn’t really need another ‘vanity blog’ about what you had for breakfast. Unless you are a super-model good looking teenage girl who wants to put a lot of photos on your blog, then you are probably going to have a hard time getting noticed. If you already have a vanity blog and are wondering why you are not getting traffic, then you need to know that the vanity blog market is totally saturated. Consider starting or changing your blog to some other topic – an interest or a hobby for example.
Get active in forums, and don’t be afraid to socialize. Become known, and get to know people- make some friends. Remember to set up your profile, like your picture, name, the “about you” section, and most importantly- your signature. As a norm, your signature consists of a quick blurb or phrase and a link to your site (your blog). Don’t spam every post you find, saying “Hey look at my site!”- just get involved with conversations. Each post you make leaves a backlink to your blog. When you seem to know what you’re talking about, people (and search engines) will follow your backlinks.
Check the forum’s page rank, too- you want to get involved in the most popular forums relevant to your topic. An easy way to do this is to ‘Google’ your main niche keyword and the word ‘forum.’ Look for forums with a few thousand or more members.
Make sure to do trackbacks and pingbacks to other blogs that you have linked to so that they know about you. When people find out that you have talked about them, they will come to see what you said. So will some of their readers. Talking about popular stories from popular blogs may get you more than just a few visitors too.
Comment on other people’s blogs as much as you can (without spamming). In most cases you can put a link back to your own blog and people do follow these links. It is also good to target blogs that talk about the same subject as you, because then you will get targeted readers who are more likely to continue reading your blog.
The biggest thing to do is to keep posting on your blog. Your readers will constantly want something new to read- not the same stuff that’s been there for a month. Fresh new content is crucial to a good steady readership.
Now if you follow these few rules, then you should be well on the way to getting a constant readership for your blog. It’s also possible to put some blogging tasks on autopilot to free up some time to work on massive traffic…
